Apple’s New London Campus Is Battersea Power Station

Apple is to become the largest office tenant at the redeveloped Battersea Power Station, bringing the majority of its London operations into one single campus.

The company currently employs more than 1,400 employees, not including retail workers, in the capital but these are sparsely located across the city.

However by occupying six floors of the iconic central boiler house, Apple will be able to bring them under one roof.

Indeed, with 500,000 square feet, the firm will have two fifths of all the available office space at the development in what is the largest office letting in London’s wider West End in the past two decades,

It is projected that Apple will move in in 2021 and its new neighbours will include the US Embassy.

“I am delighted that Apple is moving into Battersea Power Station‎, helping to generate new jobs and economic prosperity for Londoners,” said Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. “It is a further sign that London is open to the biggest brands in the world and the leading city for trade and investment.”

“I’m very pleased to give Apple a warm welcome to the London Borough of Wandsworth,” added Ravi Govindia, leader of Wandsworth Borough Council. “Apple will become the largest employer in the Borough and we are hugely excited that they will play a keen and active role in our local community.”

Apple’s main European headquarters is in Cork, where it opened up shop in 1980. It now employs more than 5,000 people in the west of Ireland, a figure which could rise to 6,000.

However, future investments could be jeopardised by a European Union ruling that Apple received “illegal tax benefits” worth up to £11 billion and must repay an Irish government which is reluctant to recover the money.
