Samsung has responded to the growing demand for ruggedised smartphones with a device of its own based on the company’s Galaxy S6 flagship.
The Galaxy S6 Active (pictured below) was unveiled in a video by US phone network AT&T today, revealing a device that is ready for those leading a wilder lifestyle than us city-dwellers.
Impressively, the S6 Active packs in the same 5.1in 577ppi AMOLED QHD display and 16MP camera as its smarter, older brother, making it one of the most powerful rugged handsets around.
Also packed inside is Samsung’s home-built Exynos 7420 octa-core 64-bit processor, LTE 4G network connections, a 5MP front-facing camera, Android Lollipop 5.0.2, and 32GB of internal storage.
In terms of special features, the S6 Active also features a 3500mAh battery with wireless charging support, and Samsung Knox security software to ensure your data remains safe.
“With the Galaxy S6 Active, we’re delivering consumers high durability coupled with the powerful performance of Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone”, said Tim Baxter, president and chief operating officer at Samsung America’s mobile division.
“The result is a smartphone that brings ruggedised capabilities and water resistance coupled with the camera, battery and design features that empower our consumers and business users to do more.”
The Galaxy S6 Active will be available in the US from AT&T from Friday (June 12), costing $199 on a two-year contract, and will be available in camo white, camo blue and grey models, however there’s no news yet as to a UK release.
