Samsung Receives More Than 20 Million Pre-Orders For Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge

Samsung looks set to reclaim a significant part of its share in the smartphone market with its latest flagship devices.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have received 20 million-plus pre-orders thanks to an aggressive marketing campaign surrounding the two devices, which are set to go on sale on April 10.

“Samsung received some 20 million pre-orders for the S6 and S6 Edge – 15 million of S6 and five million of the S6 Edge from mobile carriers, worldwide. This is the record,” an unnamed executive at a leading mobile carrier in Europe told The Korea Times last week at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona.

Samsung also admitted during MWC that it was pleasantly surprised at the response to its latest devices.

“To be honest, pre-orders of the two Galaxy variants from our major clients are really huge,” Samsung Electronics mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun told Korean reporters at the show, adding that this was far better than the previous model.

Both devices feature a 5.1in QuadHD 577ppi Super AMOLED screen and two souped-up camera which the company says trounces that of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The 16MP rear and 5MP front-facing camera feature F1.9 lenses and high-resolution sensors to provide superior image quality, even in low light, thanks to new technology which combines multiple images to create the best photo.

It is powered by the world’s first 14nm 64-bit octa-core processor along with a newly-developed LPDDR4 RAM which Samsung says makes the 6.8mm thick device one of the fastest in the world.

Three versions of the device will go on sale, with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB of internal storage respectively, although there’s no information yet on price.
