Panasonic’s New Rugged Toughbook Is Tough But Flexible
Toughbook CF-20 is the world’s first detachable rugged notebook, and is useful for all weather
Panasonic has revealed the latest edition of its Toughbook rugged notebook, which is now able to move in ways you might never have expected.
The Toughbook CF-20 is the world’s first detachable tablet, allowing workers to take the device with them wherever they are, no matter how tough the conditions. Sporting six different modes of use thanks to an attachable handle, the Toughbook CF-20 can be used in a standard tablet or laptop form, but also in clamshell, presentation and folded mode to ensure workers are never caught short.
Able to survive a drop of up to 1.2m on to concrete and operate in temperatures ranging from freezing cold to scorching heat, the device could well be Panasonic’s toughest Toughbook yet.
Hard-working
Alongside the detachable keyboard (which features an identical 2600mAh battery to the removable unit included in the tablet, effectively doubling the Toughbook CF-20’s lifespan to around two full working days), the device will be powered by Windows 10 Pro and a 6th generation Intel Core vPro processor, meaning it should be able to handle a wide range of tasks when out in the field.
There’s also 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage and an Intel HD graphics card, showing that just because it’s hardy doesn’t mean the Toughbook CF-20 skimps on power. The design of the device is fully modular and customisable for each customer, as along with the included HMDI, USB and microSD connections are options such as an NFC reader or barcode scanner.
And for a device sporting a solid magnesium casing that is IP65-rated (meaning it will stand up to water, ice and dust with ease) the Toughbook CF-20 is surprisingly light, weighing in at just 1.76kg in notebook mode, and just 950g for the standalone tablet.
The 10.1in WUXGA screen is impressively bright thanks to IPS Panel technology that lets the screen stay visible in outside conditions, and packs in an impressive 1920×1200 pixels along with sporting 10-finger touch capability along with glove use. There’s also an accompanying stylus, which is also designed to be tough in all weather and allows for writing and drawing without even needed to touch the screen.
The Toughbook CF-20 will be available from January 2016 and cost £2218 plus VAT.
