Microsoft Updates £13 Nokia 105 With Louder Audio And Dual SIM

The popular low-cost Nokia 105 handset has been updated with new features and a dual SIM variant as Microsoft seeks to attract first time mobile phone buyers and those seeking a backup to their smartphone.

The original device, revealed at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in 2013, has sold more than 80 million units worldwide and it is hoped the second iteration will be just as successful.

The headline features are 20 percent louder audio, space for up to 2,000 contacts and a battery life of 35 days on standby.

The new Nokia 2015 will be available in cyan, white and black varieties from June 2015. Microsoft claims the low-cost of $20 (£13) SIM-free and ease of use make the phone an affordable option for its target demographics.

“With handsets like the new Nokia 105, Microsoft brings very affordable mobile opportunities to more people,” said Jo Harlow, corporate vice president of Microsoft Devices Group. “The new Nokia 105 is an essential tool for first-time mobile phone users as they start their journey into a connected world.”

Despite its lack of success in the smartphone market, Nokia’s feature phones had long been an area of strength for the Finnish manufacturer. Indeed, the Nokia 1110 is the biggest selling mobile phone of all time, shifting more than 200 million units.

Microsoft has looked to continue this trend since its £4.6 billion takeover of Nokia’s devices and services business, announcing the $29 (£19) Nokia 215 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
