MWC 2016: Sony Xperia X Hopes Battery Life And Powerful Imaging Will Stand Out

Sony, which has struggled in the smartphone market in recent times, has shown off its new Xperia X flagship alongside two other devices and a range of accessories at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona – although it was mysteriously quiet on the actual specifications.

Alongside the Xperia X, Sony also revealed the high-end Xperia X Premium and more wallet-friendly Xperia XA, as well as a number of other connected devices, including a smart home hub and intelligent Bluetooth headset.

Snappy

Following big announcements from larger competitors like Samsung, LG and Huawei overnight, the pressure was on Sony, whose most recent devices have struggled to match critical acclaim with commercial success, to respond.

Although concrete details were not forthcoming as the announcement, Sony says the Xperia X family will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processors – less powerful than the chips used by many rivals.

However the new devices will come with Sony’s smart battery management tools, which the company says will deliver up to two days from a single charge.

The company was also keen to stress the power of the “next generation” camera in its new devices. These feature new technology that allow users to focus and take pictures quickly, thanks to the all-new Predictive Hybrid Autofocus function, which detects a subject and then predicts its motion, meaning images are captured in clear, non-blurry detail.

“Sony Mobile will continue to create increasingly personalised and intelligent products and services that empower you to do more, and live more creatively than ever. Our products and services will connect you to each other and become essential and beloved parts of your lives.” said Hiroki Totoki, President and CEO at Sony Mobile Communications.

“With our continued passion for technology, we will keep adding new and exciting features to evolve our smartphones. At the same time, we want to change how you access information and interact with friends and family in a closer, natural and more meaningful way.”

Available in a choice four colours, the Xperia X and Xperia XA will go on sale later this summer, although there’s no information on prices just yet.
