MWC 2016: Huawei MateBook 2-in-1 Offers Windows 10 On The Go

Huawei has sprung one of the first major surprises at this year’s Mobile World Congress with the launch of a 2-in-1 tablet device.

The Huawei MateBook is the company’s first plus-sized tablet to be targeted at the business market, and features Windows 10 installed alongside an all-day battery life and a design that’s just 6.9mm thick and weighs just 640g.

And in keeping with the latest releases from Apple and Microsoft, the MateBook also comes with a stylus – the MatePen, which can be used to interact and draw with the device, as well as a leather keyboard case.

As Huawei’s recent Nexus 6P and Mate 8 smartphones have proved, the company is no stranger to equipping its devices with some serious power, and this trend continues with the MateBook.

Inside, users will be able to choose between three 6th Generation Intel Core m-series processors, the M3, M5 or M7, each providing more power than the last, and also the choice between having 4GB or 8GB of RAM, and 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage.

The MateBook is equipped with either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro, giving you the option of kitting out your device with a range of software for home or business, with security provided by a fingerprint sensor that Huawei says is the fastest around right now.

The 12-inch IPS display features multi-touch functionality and comes with a resolution of 2160×1440 and a 160-degree wide angle for better viewing. Battery life is provided by a 33.7Wh high-density Lithium battery which Huawei says provides enough power for nine hours of work, nine consecutive hours of Internet use and 29 hours of music playback.

So you’re not ever caught short, the MateBook also features power-saving technology that can achieve a full charge in just two-and-a-half hours – or if you’re strapped for time, up to 60 percent battery strength with just an hour of charging. The device features USB-C charging out of the box, but also comes with a USB-A adaptor for those with older cables too.

Set to be available in two colour schemes when it goes on sale later this year, there’s no information on the MateBook’s UK price as yet, but the basic model (Core M3, 4GB RAM and 128GB storage) will cost $699/€799, with the most powerful edition (Core M7, 8GB RAM and 512GB storage) coming in at $1,599/€1,799.
