Windows 10 Mobile Looks To Be ‘Delayed Again’
Microsoft tells partners not to expect Windows 10 Mobile until February now
Windows 10 Mobile has been delayed again and may not launch until February, according to an email from Microsoft to partners that was leaked to VentureBeat,
It now seems that Windows 10 Mobile will arrive alongside the Lumia 650, which is epexted to launch on February 1, and will be the last smartphone to carry the Lumia brand.
Too long
The delay is the third to affect Windows 10 Mobile, and comes weeks after Microsoft was forced to postpone the initial launch following complaints from users that a preview version highlighted many flaws in the software.
Microsoft had previously said that smartphone users would be able to upgrade their handset to Windows 10 in December, before then pushing back the OS update until “early 2016”.
The email also revealed that the Lumia 950 and 950 XL devices, which were meant to ship with Windows 10 Mobile installed, will now also not receive their second scheduled monthly service update.
That will now also ship next month, meaning that all Lumia owners should receive the most up-to-date version of Windows 10 Mobile when they update.
As well as the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, the Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 635 (1 GB RAM), Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, and Lumia 930 will all be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, whenever it is finally released.
Microsoft says that Windows 10 adoption is growing the fastest out of any version of Windows previously released, outpacing Windows 7 by nearly 140 percent and Windows 8 by nearly 400 percent.
Since its launch last Summer, the software is already running on 200 million devices around the world, with Microsoft setting an ambitious ultimate target of more than one billion devices.
