Is LG Making A New Windows Phone?

Windows Phone could be about to gain another powerful ally following reports that LG is set to announce a new device powered by Microsoft’s mobile OS.

The South Korean manufacturer is apparently working on a Windows Phone-powered device for US mobile network Verizon.

Images of the device were revealed by US site Neowin, showing what looks like a mid-sized handset running Windows Phone 8.1. Looking pretty similar to Google’s Nexus 5, there’s no information yet on specifications, but the image (shown below) show that it will support LTE networks and have a front-facing camera at the top right corner.

Support

Despite a long-running struggle in getting its devices to compete with Android and iOS, Windows Phone does have several high profile backers. Microsoft announced at MWC 2014 that LG, alongside other heavyweights such as Lenovo and HTC, would be continuing to produce devices powered by Windows Phone, but so far there hasn’t been much in terms of actual releases.

LG was thought to be concentrating all its efforts on the launch of its upcoming G4 flagship device, set to be revealed on April 28.

The device is set to be the company’s most powerful yet, with reports back in January claiming that the LG G4 will feature top of the line hardware, being powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset, and 3GB of RAM.

It’s also expected to feature a 5.5-inch, quad HD screen, a replaceable 3,000mAh battery, and a microSD card slot.
