Google has confirmed Android Marshmallow is now running on 10.1 percent of all active devices powered by its mobile software, as more and more products running the version hit the market.
The company’s last quarterly Android usage report back in March showed that only 2.3 percent of devices were running Marshmallow, marking a major increase for the software, thanks to the launch of premium Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5.
Google’s figures show that Android 4.4 KitKat, first released in October 2013, remains the most widely-used version of the software, present on 31.6 percent of devices.
This is followed by the two versions of Android Lollipop, with 5.1 (20.0 percent) and 5.0 (15.4 percent) also taking big chunks of the market, with Marshmallow in fourth place.
Google revealed the next version of Android last month at its Google I/O conferece, although Android N’s official name is still yet to be confirmed.
However the software will feature a number of significant upgrades from Marshmallow, including support for multi-window support, allowing for more than one app on screen at any time, and tweaks to notification display and speed improvements for the Android launcher
Also included are more ‘unique’ emojis that add a number of people-focused designs as Google looks for “a more human-looking design” that includes a variety of skin tones.
The preview is available to download now for users that have a Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, or Pixel C device.
