TalkTalk Business customers can now use their office number on their smartphone at no extra cost with the launch of the Talk2Go app for iOS and Android.
Users can pair up to five devices to a single landline number, allowing them to make calls over a 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi network at the same cost as if they were using a fixed connection, while a ‘Follow Me’ feature allows them to transfer a call from one device to another.
TalkTalk says this means customers can avoid roaming charges when abroad or use a WLAN network in areas with poor cellular coverage with the added benefit that they can be contacted at any time, ensuring no important business calls are missed.
The company has also reports that Monday was the busiest ever day for its next generation network as web users rushed to do their Christmas shopping. At one point the TalkTalk network was handling 1.38Tbps of data, beating the previous record of 1.25Tbps in September when Apple released iOS 8.
TalkTalk said that despite the high demand, there was no sign its network was slowing down, adding that it plans to increase capacity by 100 times over the next five years.
“Our Next Generation Network now reaches 96 percent of the UK population, which means we can bring unlimited bandwidth, faster speeds and great value to millions of British homes,” adds Colin Whitbread, chief network officer at TalkTalk. “We will carry on investing to meet the growing demand from our customers.”
TalkTalk is currently undergoing a big business push hoping to erode BT’s share of the SMB market and told TechWeekEurope earlier this year about its plans to connect 60 percent of the UK to 1Gbps speeds using Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) technology. It saw a 55 percent increase in uptake for its business broadband products during the second quarter of 2014 thanks to cheaper packages and a new marketing campaign.
