Google Reveals Revamped Wallet App Ahead Of Android Pay Launch

Google has revealed an all-new version of its Google Wallet payment app, which it hopes will get users to adopt the service before the launch of Android Pay later this year

The redesigned app, now featuring a new colour scheme and logo, is now available to download from the Google Play app store.

The release comes ahead of the expected launch of Android Pay as Google looks to move into the increasingly lucrative mobile payments space.

Return

Google Wallet has been through several relaunches and redesigns during its short life, as the company attempts to work out how best to use the service.

Along with allowing NFC payments, much like Apple Pay, the app lets users send money to anyone with an email address, as well as being able to make instant requests for payment, and also cash out to a user’s debit card or bank account.

Users can even stay on top of their spending by adding a set amount to their Wallet Balance, or set up a recurring transfer from another bank account.

First announced back at Google I/O in May, Android Pay will allow Android users to quickly and easily use their mobile devices to pay for goods or services at a shop checkout using a contactless terminal.

The company has reportedly signed up a number of big-name retailers for the launch of the service, which was rumoured to happen last month, but was apparently pushed back so as not to clash with the reveal of Apple’s latest iPhones.
