Microsoft Azure RemoteApp To Deliver Windows Apps To Android, iOS

Businesses will soon be able to deploy Windows applications in the cloud and access them from virtually any device with the launch of Azure RemoteApp later this month.

Azure RemoteApp was announced earlier this year the TechEd North America conference and has been available as a preview version until now.

Preview users will receive a 30 day trial of the full product, which will also be available on a pay-as-you-go basis from Azure. Customers will also be able to purchase Azure RemoteApp on a licensed basis from February.

“To stay productive, people need anywhere, anytime access to corporate resources on the devices they use. Delivering these resources to different device platforms is no easy task,” says Microsoft. “In certain use case scenarios, providing native applications to each platform may not be the ideal solution.”

All security and management is handled in the Cloud and software can be scaled up or down depending on the needs of the customer, who are given hybrid or cloud deployment options

Applications are accessed through the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol and can be viewed on a number of different platforms including iOS, Mac OSX, Android and Windows.

“We’ve received positive feedback from customers on the simplicity of the app-based approach and have continued to improve the service with new features and functionality during the preview period,” added the company.

Microsoft has added a number of analytic and big data features to Azure as well as partnerships with BT and IBM, however the cloud platform suffered yet another global outage last month – the latest in a succession of failures to afflict the service over the last few years
