The pre-MWC landslide of device launches continued today as Kazam revealed a new collection of smartphones and its first ever range of tablets.
The British manufacturer has taken the wraps off no less than nine new smartphones, alongside three new tablets, spread across Android and Windows software, as it looks to further its reach and establish itself as a key European player.
Six of these new smartphones are additions to Kazam’s Trooper range, including an entry-level device, the Trooper 445L (pictured left), a 4.5in smartphone sporting LTE support in order to cope with the increasing rise in consumers using superfast networks.
The 445L is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor backed up by 1GB of RAM, 8GB storage expandable to 128GB and a 1,980mAh battery. Running Android 4.4 KitKat, it also comes with 5MP rear and 0.3MP front cameras.
Alongside this, Kazam is also announcing the downsized Trooper 440L, 450, 451, 450L and 455 models, as well as two Windows Phones, the Thunder 450W and 450WL.
Of these latter two devices, the 450W comes with a 5in 720 x 1280 display, 1.2GHz quad-core MSM8212 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage expandable to 32GB plus an 8MP rear and 2MP front camera. This comes with Windows Phone 8.1 and a 2,200mAh battery. The 450WL features much of the same specs but comes with a 1.2GHz quad-core MSM8916 processor and larger 2,500mAh battery.
Finally, the company has gone for a retro vibe with the release of the Life C6, a clamshell design smartphone harking back to a simpler time. Aimed at first-time smartphone users, the Life C6 features a dedicated SOS list of numbers pre-registered and is backed by Kazam’s Rescue free cracked screen replacement and three-year warranty.
More interestingly, as part of its efforts to expand, the company has also announced its first range of tablets, the L7, L8 and L10. Running Windows 8.1, the devices offer a lightweight, low-cost and reliable build which the company hopes will attract new customers looking for a cheap but powerful device.
Top of the range is the L10, (pictured right) a 10.1in device with 1280 x 800 resolution display, Intel Baytrail quad-core CPU running between 1.33GHz and 1.83GHz backed by 2GB RAM and 32GB storage with 32GB expansion. This comes with 2MP front and rear cameras, Wi-Fi connectivity and a 7,900mAh battery. The L7 and L8 models feature 7in and 8in displays respectively, and offer smaller storage capacity options.
“As a dedicated European mobile brand, Kazam has responded to the demand for choice at every level,” said Kazam CEO Michael Coombes. “Today’s announcement further demonstrates our commitment to the market, innovating in areas often overlooked.”
All the new devices are expected to be released in Europe later this year, but Kazam didn’t provide any information on exactly when, or pricing for any of the devices.
Kazam was formed in 2013 by two former HTC executives looking to produce smartphones that specifically targeted the needs of the European market. The company’s last release was the Tornado 348 back in October 2014, which at just 5.15mm across was one of the world’s thinnest mobile devices.
