Apple: iPhone 6S And 6S Plus ‘Set To Break Sale Records’

Apple is is expecting record-breaking sales of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus when it goes on sale on September 25, and says it has already seen a huge number of pre-orders since this opened last Saturday.

This would put it far ahead of the figures for the iPhone 6, which sold ten million devices in just three days across eight countries.

Positive

“Customer response to iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus has been extremely positive and preorders this weekend were very strong around the world,” the company told CNBC. “We are on pace to beat last year’s 10 million unit first-weekend record when the new iPhones go on sale September 25.”

However there are fears that such huge demand will lead to a shortage in available handsets, with wait times for the new devices creeping up to several weeks, according to Re/code.

Apple, however, has said that this will not be the case.

“As many customers noticed, the online demand for iPhone 6s Plus has been exceptionally strong and exceeded our own forecasts for the preorder period,” Apple said. “We are working to catch up as quickly as we can, and we will have iPhone 6s Plus as well as iPhone 6s units available at Apple retail stores when they open next Friday.”

The 4.7-inch iPhone 6S and 5.5-inch iPhone 6S Plus were unveiled last week at an event in San Francisco, revealing upgraded hardware, camera and iOS 9 functionality.

The new devices will also feature 3D Touch, a potentially revolutionary feature which allows the device to monitor how hard a user is pressing on its screen, and perform different actions accordingly.
