Revealed – Is This Really The New HTC One M9?

The world finally got its first look at HTC’s new One M9 smartphone following an apparent leak of information regarding the device.

A full set of photos and specifications for the smartphone appear to have leaked over the weekend, giving fans an unexpected sneak peak of the company’s upcoming flagship device.

Due to be officially revealed at HTC’s ‘Utopia in Progress’ media event in Barcelona on March 1, two German retailers appear to have published full listings of the device, according to website Mobile Geeks.

Bumped up

The leaks confirm much of what had been expected of the new device from a long series of rumours, which appears to be a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the HTC One M8.

It will be powered by an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor clocked at 2.0 Ghz, alongside 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD cards.

Running Android 5.0 Lollipop and HTC’s Sense 7 software, it will sport a huge 2,900mAh battery which should provide all-day battery life.

Also apparently confirmed is the widely-anticipated 20MP rear camera featuring optical image stabilisation. Interestingly, however, the lens appears to protrude from the rear of the device, similar to the camera on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, although HTC’s offering is set in the middle of the phone.

The metal-bodied device, measuring in at 9.61mm thick, will be available in either gold with silver lining or an almost-black gunmetal grey finish when it goes on sale later this year, costing €749 (around £550, $850).

Coming soon?

According to reports, HTC is planning a series of announcements at Mobile World Congress as it looks to ensure its spot as one of the top mobile manufacturers. Last week, it was reported that the company was also preparing a super-sized ‘phablet’ device to accompany the One M9 as it aims to target the steadily growing market currently dominated by the likes of the iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

But the company is also set to release its first smartwatch in Barcelona – codenamed the HTC Petra, it should provide health and activity tracking functions, and easily connect to a user’s smartphone.
