All-Metal Honor 5X Takes Personal To A New Level

Honor has taken the wraps of its brand new handset as it got the jump on some of its bigger arrivals ahead of Mobile World Congress.

The Honor 5X is the company’s latest handset, aimed squarely at those who want a powerful Android device without the need to spend big.

Featuring a 5.5in FullHD screen, octa-core Qualcomm processor and intelligent fingerprint sensor, the Honor 5X is available now in the UK for just £189.99.

Stylish

Reportedly inspired by the iconic Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Honor 5X sports an aluminium alloy body that has been diamond polished to ensure the highest quality finish.

The device features a 5.5in 1920/1080p FullHD screen, meaning it comes in at 403ppi – making it ideal for watching high-quality videos or gaming. Inside, there’s an octa-core Snapdragon 616 processor clocked at 1.5Ghz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD.

Speaking of cards, Honor has also made the 5X the first to be able to accept three external cards, as it is able to support dual SIM capability (Nano SIM and Micro SIM) as well as a microSD card, making this a very attractive proposition for those who like to work on the go.

As usual, the company has also included a powerful camera on the device, with a 13MP rear camera twinned with a 5MP front lens that includes a number of interesting photo functions, including a “beauty mode” to smarten up your selfies and a “good food mode” to make your Instagram snaps look even tastier.

Touchy

The rear of the device holds the fingerprint scanner, said by Honor to be the smartest it has developed to date.

Able to unlock the device in less than 0.5 seconds, the sensor only needs six touches to be able to register a fingerprint, which can then be assigned to automatically open a specific app, such as camera or a social media site, when unlocked. In fact, Honor has made it possible to link each of your five fingers to a separate app, making this probably the most wide-ranging fingerprint scanner on the market today.

This is all backed up by an impressive 3,000mAh battery, which, twinned with Honor’s SmartPower 3.0 software should offer users up to two days battery life, Honor says. The phone is powered by parent company Huawei’s EMUI 3.1. software, based on Android 5.1, meaning all your favourite apps and services are present, making this an ideal device for work or home use.

“This is a phone that has pure power,” said Thorsten Doehlert, Honor’s senior product marketing manager, revealing that the phone will be available in three colour schemes, gold, grey and silver.
