Dropbox Launches Windows Phone And Tablet Apps

Dropbox has released an application for Windows Phone and Windows tablets as part of the company’s ongoing partnership with Microsoft.

The new app boasts many of the features available in the Android and iOS versions, such as automatic photo back-up and the ability to mark certain files as favourite so they can be viewed offline.

Business users can use the app to access both personal and work accounts, while a unique feature for Windows is the ability to pin any Dropbox folder to a device’s Start screen for quick and easy access.

The application is available for devices running Windows Phone 8, Windows RT or Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store.

The two partners claim there are 35 billion Office files on Dropbox and integration will allow Office users to directly access files stored on the cloud service, while Office documents can be viewed and edited directly within the Dropbox application.

Dropbox, which has traditionally targeted the consumer market, has turned its attention to the enterprise and will hope that Office 365 integration will strengthen its bid to attract more businesses to the platform.

The company has also opened up an office in London to aid its continued expansion into the UK, where it is claimed that a quarter of all web users have a Dropbox account.
