Dell has announced a major play for the enterprise market with the launch of an updated Windows tablet device.
At its Dell World event in Austin today, the company revealed the newest iteration of its Venue 11 Pro Windows tablet, which it says will “accelerate productivity for mobile workers and provide secure access to content beyond the corporate firewall for easy IT management”.
Available in the UK from November 11 and costing £529, the device features a 10.8in 1920×1080 full HD IPS display and is powered by Intel’s latest Core M 2 GHz processor alongside the latest version of Windows 8.1.
Dell has also redesigned the device to be 15 percent slimmer than its predecessor, meaning it now measures just 0.42 in across, and introduced a new fanless design which cuts down on noise and weight, with the Venue 11 Pro weighing in at just 162g.
The company is also promising all-day battery life, with a detachable travel keyboard offering hours of extra power for those out and about or working on the go.
The tablet, which will come with 64GB of internal storage which can be upgraded via an SD card, can be configured with additional security features including two-factor authentication with integrated smartcard and fingerprint readers, as well as the Dell Data Protection suite of client security software.
Dell’s push for the tablet market comes following the release of a report which shows many businesses are still wary of introducing tablet devices into the workplace. The company found that more than one third of IT organisations it surveyed are apprehensive of the time required to set up, configure, manage and secure tablets when compared to laptops. They also believe tablets are more vulnerable to viruses, software security breaches and becoming quickly outdated.
