LG has revealed the second generation of its curved screen phone, the G Flex2, at the CES show in Las Vegas.
Following on from the original Flex, released a year ago, the Flex2 features a 5.5inch Full HD display which curves to fit the shape of your hand. The device also includes the “Self Healing” rear surface seen on its predecessor, which LG says can remove scrapes and scratches in around ten second.
LG says that the Flex2 is more streamlined than the original device, featuring a radius of curves of 400mm to 700mm across the front, back, sides and top-to-bottom edges, which makes the device easier to grip and fit into your pocket.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s 2.0 Ghz Snapdragon 810 processor with Octa-Core 64-bit capable CPUs, backed up with 2GB of RAM. It comes with either 16 or 32 GB of storage, although this can be upgraded to a maximum of 1TB via microSD.
The device, which is 4G/LTE compatible, will run Android 5.0 Lollipop, and features LG’s FastCharge technology, which allows the 3,000mAh battery – which like the handset is also curved – to be charged up to 50 percent in under 40 minutes.
There is also a 13MP rear camera with the Laser Auto Focus camera seen in the G3 smartphone, with an 2.1MP front camera also included, with LG packing in several software tools to ensure taking photos is as easy as possible. This includes Gesture Shot, which lets users use hand gestures to capture the perfect selfie, and Gesture View to quickly check your last image.
“The original G Flex demonstrated LG’s pioneering spirit and with the G Flex2 we have refined the curved form factor, staying true to our philosophy of innovation for a better life,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
“The G Flex2 not only has the stunning looks, it also has the powerful guts to be at the cutting edge of current smartphone technology. Simply put, it’s a true head-turner in every sense of the word.”
The LG Flex2 will be available in Korea from the end of the month, with additional markets following soon. The company didn’t specify any details on pricing, but the Flex 2 will initially be available in two colours.
