BlackBerry Oslo Could Be The Ideal Passport Replacement

More details have emerged surrounding BlackBerry’s latest business-focused handset, the BlackBerry Oslo.

Images and details of the hardware inside the spiritual successor to the pocket-shaped Passport device have been revealed by US site N4BB, showing a powerful processor and large battery which should make it appeal to BlackBerry’s traditional customer base.

However, the device seems to bear more than a passing resemblance to the AT&T Passport, a rejigged version of BlackBerry’s original device released by the US network last year.

According to the images (pictured left), the Oslo keeps the same square-shaped design as the Passport, but offers a different design on the front, which appears to be a combination of steel frame mixed with silver plastic, alongside the traditional textured rubber backing.

This means that inside, there’s a 2.2GHz MSM8974 Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 3GB RAM, all powered by a 3450mAh battery, alongside a 13MP rear camera and software powered by the final build of BlackBerry’s OS 10.3.2.

There’s no details yet on the release date or pricing for the device, but it’s safe to say that BlackBerry will be releasing the Oslo into Europe, North America and Asia soon.

The Oslo could play a major part in helping BlackBerry’s fortunes, which have suffered in recent times as the company has looked to restructure following a downturn in smartphone sales.

However, three new devices, including the Oslo, were supposedly leaked back in April, showing that BlackBerry still sees mobile devices as a key market.

The company’s most recent launch was the BlackBerry Leap, an affordable, full touchscreen phone targeted at privacy-conscious consumers and businesses, which went on sale in the UK a few months ago.
