EE Has Best Mobile Internet At London City Airport

EE offers the best mobile Internet service at London City Airport, according to tests of all four major operators’ networks by RootMetrics.

The independent research firm found that EE’s median download speed of 16.1Mbps and median upload speeds of 26.2Mbps were “considerably faster” than its rivals.

O2’s median download speed was 7.17Mbps, ahead of Vodafone’s 6.52Mbps and Three’s 4.51Mbps. However Three came second in uploads, with 10.21Mbps, beating O2’s 6.45Mbps and Vodafone’s 6.04Mbps.

EE was also found to be the best performing network at both Heathrow and Gatwick, although RootMetrics says all four offered superior speeds at London City than the other two airports.

It says mobile data speeds are becoming an increasingly important consideration for businesses which want employees to work right up until take off. Along with strong mobile speeds, London City also offers passengers free Wi-Fi.

“Travellers in the UK can now get a better idea of mobile internet performance while travelling and during delays at the UK’s busiest airports,” said Bill Moore, CEO of RootMetrics. “Our testing at London City showed impressive performances from multiple operators, especially EE, which recorded the fastest median download and upload speeds, while winning its third consecutive Mobile Internet RootScore Award to date at a UK airport.”

Last year, EE announced plans to improve coverage on the UK’s major rail and road routes as well as 18 of the country’s busiest airports. These included Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, City, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool John Lennon, Bristol, Nottingham East Midlands, Leeds-Bradford, Belfast International, George Best Belfast City, Robin Hood and Blackpool.

RootMetrics recently named EE as best operator in the UK, while Ofcom’s tests have also found the operator has the fastest 4G network in the country.
