EE Offers Fastest Mobile Data At Heathrow And Gatwick

Regular travellers get the best 4G service from EE, according to RootMetrics research

Businesses wanting employees to be able to respond to emails right up until their flight takes off should opt for EE, according to research from RootMetrics, which found the operator’s mobile data service is the fastest and most reliable at both Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.

The independent research firm conducted tests at the UK’s two busiest airports and found EE’s network offered the fastest download and upload speeds at both locations.

At Heathrow, EE’s median download speed of 31.2Mbps was faster than Three’s 4.64Mbps, O2’s 3.84Mbps and Vodafone’s 3.3 Mbps, while it also led the way at Gatwick, serving up 20.4Mbps, ahead of Vodafone on 5.68Mbps, Three on 3.2Mbps on 2.4Mbps and O2 on 2.4Mbps.

“Travellers in the UK can now get a better idea of the mobile internet performance while travelling or during delays at the UK’s two busiest airports,” said Bill Moore, CEO of RootMetrics. “Our testing at Heathrow and Gatwick showed impressive performances from multiple operators, especially EE, which had the fastest speeds and won the RootScore Award at both airports.

“Internet access in airports has become a business essential and a consumer assumption. Travellers expect to be able to get online easily, whether it’s for work or entertainment purposes, and travellers now have accurate, unbiased information to help them to get the most out of their mobile internet performance at Heathrow and Gatwick.”

Last year, EE announced plans to improve coverage on the UK’s major rail and road routes as well as 18 of the country’s busiest airports. These included Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, City, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool John Lennon, Bristol, Nottingham East Midlands, Leeds-Bradford, Belfast International, George Best Belfast City, Robin Hood and Blackpool

RootMetrics recently named EE as best operator in the UK, while Ofcom’s tests have also found the operator has the fastest 4G network in the country.
