Adopting OpenStack for Business

http://conferences.unicom.co.uk/adopting-openstack/

OpenStack, may once have been seen as the geeks’ playground but now there’s plenty of sober corporate interest these days.  It is now recognised as the main game in town for non-proprietary cloud development and there are many reasons why it carries so much clout.  The primary one is that it is setting the pace when it comes to open technology within a fast growing cloud world.

But the word “Open” poses a problem in the world of technology.  In its simplest form, a computer system that is described as open is one that’s non-proprietary and which offers some degree of interoperability and portability, in other words it operates on a variety of platforms. It’s not quite as straightforward as that, as not every open product is quite as “open” as it should be, but that’s the theory.

OpenStack has been adopted by many organisations and many are the high profile users.  For other enterprises there are a few points to consider and learn about the various cloud versions, whether the platform is enterprise-ready.  Practitioners and thought leaders talk about:  Adaptability • Open source • Interoperability • Difficulties of implementation • OpenStack project governance • Weak spots in some OpenStack projects • Integration with existing infrastructure.
