Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes that in the future, people will communicate telepathically.
He also would take his wife, his dog and a book (or phone) to a desert island, and discussed Facebook’s artificial intelligence (AI) research and staying in shape.
The townhall Q&A by Zuckerberg took place earlier this week and covered a wide range of subjects. During a previous Q&A, Zuckerberg revealed that Facebook’s that the Internet.org project, which aims to connect the so far unconnected parts of the world to the Internet, will be coming to Europe in the future.
Now Zuckerberg answered a question on the Internet.org project by saying that “you can expect everyone to be connected in the future!”
He said that more than one billion people can already access this free basic internet service, and that research has shown that for every 10 people connected, roughly one person is raised out of poverty.
“One day, I believe we’ll be able to send full rich thoughts to each other directly using technology,” said Zuckerberg. “You’ll just be able to think of something and your friends will immediately be able to experience it too if you’d like. This would be the ultimate communication technology.
Zuckerberg also answered questions from a number of celebrities.
“I would like to know a unified theory of gravity and the other forces,” wrote Professor Stephen Hawking. Which of the big questions in science would you like to know the answer to and why?
“That’s a pretty good one!” replied Zuckerberg. “I’m most interested in questions about people. What will enable us to live forever? How do we cure all diseases? How does the brain work? How does learning work and how we can empower humans to learn a million times more?”
“I’m also curious about whether there is a fundamental mathematical law underlying human social relationships that governs the balance of who and what we all care about. I bet there is,” he wrote.
“I make sure I work out at least three times a week – usually first thing when I wake up,” said Zuckerberg. I also try to take my dog running whenever I can, which has the added bonus of being hilarious because that basically like seeing a mop run.”
Zuckerberg’s dog is called Beast and is a Hungarian Puli (a sheepdog that sports dreadlocks).
“And no, the machines don’t win,” said Zuckerberg.
That said, Professor Hawking may disagree with Zuckerberg here, after he predicted that humanity has 100 years left before artificial intelligence takes over.
Zuckerberg also gave his defination of happiness.
“To me, happiness is doing something meaningful that helps people and that I believe in with people I love,” he said.
