MWC 2015 – Huawei Unveils Super-Stylish Smartwatch

Huawei has launched a new range of wearable devices as it looks to exert its dominance in an increasingly important industry.

The Chinese manufacturer unveiled both its first ever smartwatch, the Huawei Watch, at Mobile World Congress, alongside two new fitness bands, the TalkBand B2 and TalkBand N1.

The former has caught the most eyes, however, offering an extremely polished design in a variety of finishes which should help it stand out in the increasingly crowded wearables market.

Powered by Android Wear, the Huawei Watch features a fully circular 1.4-inch touch-sensitive AMOLED 286ppi display, scratch-proof sapphire crystal lens, cold-forged stainless steel frame, and comes with a built-in heart rate monitor and 6-Axis motion sensors.

Compatible with smartphones running Android 4.3 or higher, the Huawei Watch boasts a powerful Qualcomm 1.2GHz processor, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM and Bluetooth 4.1, with charging done via a magnetic charging station.

“We have responded to consumers’ requests from around the world asking for a smartwatch featuring a timeless design that is truly smart from within. Through Huawei’s continued commitment to ‘Make It Possible,’ the Huawei Watch delivers on that promise and gives the consumer a premium smartwatch that is technologically innovative,” said Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group.

“As the first smartwatch in our expanding line of premium wearable products, the Huawei Watch was designed and created to enhance and be part of the consumer’s everyday lives.”

The company is looking to offer extensive personalisation options for customers, with more than 40 unique watch faces being made available to choose from, including a full range of watch straps made from different materials, and styles.

Keep fit

Huawei also announced two new additions to its burgeoning smart tracker family, aimed more towards fitness-conscious consumers.

The TalkBand B2 (pictured right) is the second-generation of Huawei’s family of fitness trackers, and offers smarter fitness tracking functionality with higher accuracy, alongside enhanced synchronisation with a user’s mobile device.

Equipped with an advanced 6-axis sensor, the TalkBand B2 can automatically identify and record motions accurately, detect the duration of deep sleep and light sleep, and provide consumers with health tips on ways to improve their sleep pattern. Battery life is estimated to be up to five days continual use or 12 days standby time.

Compatible with devices running Android 4.0 and iPhones with IOS7.0 or above, it will come in three colours, black, silver and gold, and cost around £150 on its launch later this year.

Also announced was the TalkBand N1 (pictured left), an audio-focused headset offering fitness fanatics a super-clear music experience whilst they work out.

Weighing just 18g, the device features enough storage for 1,000 MP3 songs, and can also be paired with your smartphone to sync fitness data including step counting, distance calculation, calorie consumption tracking, and more.

It will cost around £89 on its launch later this year.
