Is HTC’s Smartwatch Back From The Dead?

HTC fans could finally be getting their hands on a smartwatch from the company within the next few months, according to one of the Internet’s most prominent tipsters.

Evan Blass, better known on Twitter as @evleaks, revealed that a ‘One watch’ will be coming in February, meaning HTC is nearing a release for its first smartwatch device.

“HTC fans, you’ll finally have One watch to call your own come February,” Blass tweeted, although he did not provide any information on release schedules or pricing, meaning we may find out more on the device at CES 2016 next month in preparation for a launch at Mobile World Congress in February.

A One smartwatch would be HTC’s first official smartwatch, although it did release the HTC Grip sports band at Mobile World Congress 2015 back in March.

Launched in partnership with sports brand Under Armour, the Grip marked HTC’s fist entry into the increasingly lucrative wearable technology market, but following poor sales and reception from the market, the device was pulled from sale in July.

HTC normally has a strong profile at Mobile World Congress, revealing a new smartphone as well as a Virtual Reality headset at this year’s event.

The number of wearable technology devices sold this year is set to reach its highest number yet as more and more companies start to enter the market.

Recent figures from analyst firm IDC estimate that 45.7m wearable devices will be sold this year, up 133.4 percent from last year’s figure. The rise is only set to continue over the next few years, with IDC estimating 126.1m units will be sold in 2019.
