“As with any good tool, those kind of things constantly go through refinement. We are taking the simulator tool and exposing it to our technology committee for evaluation. This is not a score card or a report card though, but rather a way to add the input from a broad range of folks in the global community to offer Zhal and his team ways to improve said tools,” said Tuccillo.
Limbuwala added that the process of refinement envisioned by Green Grid fits well with the concept behind the simulator tool. “The data centre simulator was invented by Romonet but the intellectual property of the core simulator was actually released in conjuction with the BCS and Carbon Trust under an open source license.”
According to Tuccillo, the Green Grid Advisory council – made up of end-users – will help provide end-user feedback on how the simulator tool should be developed.
“The Advisory Council is there quite frankly to keep us honest and make sure we stay focused on the end-users’ needs and requirements, and advises the board of directors on the governance of the organisation,” said Tucillo. “The advisory council is going to be one of the early contributors to this evaluation process. What better community than a community of end-users to offer insights and discussion points around the tool. These are the folks that Zhal created the tool for.”
