Enrique Iglesias Injured On-Stage By Drone
Pop superstar left bloodied following incident with filming drone at concert in Mexico
The growing menace of drones was further illustrated over the weekend following a bloodthirsty attack on one of the pop music world’s biggest stars.
Pop hearththrob Enrique Iglesias was left bloodied and bruised following a run-in with a drone in front of a crowd of 12,000 fans at a concert in Tijuana, Mexico as part of his ‘Sex and Love’ world tour.
Iglesias was left with blood pouring from his hand following the incident (pictured below), which had to be treated on-stage.
No Hero
The mishap occurred as the ‘Hero’ singer tried to grab a drone which was being used to capture images of the crowd in order to get a personal view of his fans.
Video of the concert shows him trying to grab and turn the drone, before quickly dropping it as blood start to come from his hand.
However, the singer seemed unaffected by the gash, even drawing a heart on his T-shirt in his own blood, before being patched up by medical staff at the side of the stage and continuing the show, despite being advised to stop.
After the show, he met an ambulance at the airport, before flying to Los Angeles to see a specialist.
“Something went wrong, and he had an accident. He was semi-treated by crew on the side of the stage to try and stop the bleeding,” Iglesias’ publicist Joe Bonilla said in a statement.
“Enrique is getting the help he needs and we hope he will be totally fine. We will keep you posted and appreciate all your wishes and prayers.”
Watch Out
The incident raises further concerns about the safety of drones.
Last October, research by the University of Birmingham highlighted the privacy, safety and indeed security risks of drones over the next 20 years, especially as the aircraft could be possibly used by terror groups to attack public events.
Google’s chairman Eric Schmidt has also warned that drones operated by members of the public do pose a privacy and security risk.
However, Londoners could soon be seeing many more of the units patrolling the skies following support from Mayor Boris Johnson, who has previously suggested that drones could be a solution to the traffic problems that plague the city.
