TechWeek Awards: Celebrating Success

While the nation is celebrating Olympic sporting prowess, Peter Judge puts our IT Games under starters’ orders

Does your organisation have a project to shout about? If so, let us know because in November, our Tech Success Awards will honour the most innovative IT schemes in the UK.

Our awards, running for the first time this year, will recognise the best IT projects in Britain, in specific categories, including Cloud, Efficiency, and Big Data. Nominations are now open, so send your suggestions to us right away.

Going for Gold!

The TechWeek Awards were born out of our conviction that IT doesn’t get celebrated as much as sport, despite contributing a lot more to our national life. While the nation prepares to celebrate sporting achievements at the London 2012 Olympics, IT only seems to hit the headlines, when it fails.

We want to change that debate, and recognise the IT projects that are really worth shouting about. It won’t be as sweaty as the actual Olympics, and it won’t be broadcast round the world. but we hope it will be just as hotly contested.

We are inviting nominations in several categories, so let us know if you think your project excels.

To be eligible your project should be live, should have been delivered in the UK since May 2011, and should fit one or more of the following categories:

  • Most Innovative Project, where you have used technology differently to how it has been used anywhere else
  • Best Efficient/Green project, where you have saved energy or resources, either within your own organisation, or enabling savings elsewhere
  • Best Cloud Project, where services have moved to an internal or external cloud, allowing flexibility and maybe some savings as well
  • Best Mobility Project, where new or different services, are available inside or outside your organisation, maybe on devices you (or your users)  never expected
  • Best Big Data Project, where you got hold of a big data set and found things out that were previously unknown
  • Best Public Sector Project, where you saved public money, and improved public services through great tech
  • Best Open Source Project, where open source software isa used to create a new response to business needs

If you think your project could fit in more than one category, let us know. Send a brief description of your project to awards(at)netmediaeurope.com before October 19, and we will get in touch for more details. Your entry will be judged by a panel including TechWeekEurope editor Peter Judge, deputy Tom Brewster, QuoCirca analyst Clive Longbottom, Mark Taylor, Sirius, founder of the Open Source Consortium, Liam Newcombe of Romonet and the BCS Data Centre Specialist Group. and other industry luminaries.
