VMware Goes All In With Windows 10 Support For Customers
VMware’s Project A2 offers a “mobile-centric approach” to delivering and managing applications and devices for Windows 10
VMware has made nice with long-time rival Microsoft and gone all in for supporting its users with Windows 10.
The virtualisation giant has released a new technology called Project A2, which uses VMware tools to allow customers to hasten their adoption of Windows 10 with mobile-like management for their devices and applications.
Mobile-centric
Sumit Dhawan, senior vice president of desktop products at VMware said in a blog post: “[Project A2] offers a new mobile-centric approach to delivering and managing applications and devices for Windows 10 using AirWatch enterprise mobile management (EMM) and VMware App Volumes application delivery technology.”
Project A2 consists of two major components. VMware App Volumes gives users the ability to manage and deliver apps in real-time. AirWatch manages Windows 10 environments and devices. The two work side by side for users.
“The launch of Windows 10 has been positioned as a milestone release for Microsoft and represents a fundamental shift in the way IT can manage all devices running the new software. I expect our customers to begin to adopt Windows 10 in the next 6 to 12 months,” said Dhawan.
“Everyone, including Microsoft, is recommending that customers should look at their management environment as they plan their update to Windows 10”
Dhawan added that he thinks VMware is “pioneering” a unique approach in the industry with the combination of lateral management and real-time applications delivery. There is no concrete release date yet.
The technology is part of a larger strategy by VMware to increase its viability in the mobile business space.
“Business Mobility is more than a shift in technology; it is an opportunity for true business process transformation,” said Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president of End-User Computing in June.
“Business Mobility will be a key driver of economic value for the next decade — truly reorienting businesses around mobile innovation, apps and services. As a result, the adage ‘adapt or perish’ has never been truer than it is today.”
