The Aurora Borealis over southern Iceland
Verne Global, a UK data centre company with a 44-acre data centre in Iceland, has entered into a partnership with Level 3 Communications to improve connectivity at the Keflavik site.
Together the companies will implement an Internet Protocol (IP)-driven Point-of-Presence (PoP) in the country
The collaboration will help meet demand from Verne Global’s customers to connect to more than 40 new countries accessible through direct connectivity to Level 3’s global network.
Verne’s carrier-neutral data centre is based in an ex-NATO air base, and benefits from geothermal and hydroelectric energy supplies to keep it green. The data centre was at the centre of Verne’s £65 million funding round earlier this year, headed up by Icelandic private equity firm Stefnir.
“Iceland is an ideal location for businesses to house their data, as it is the central point for a wide variety of key locations,” said Dominic Ward, vice president of corporate development at Verne Global. “Working with Level 3 will ensure that our customers have even more international access with increased global connectivity, allowing them to expand their presence in territories they may not have even considered until now.”
“Enterprises are increasingly dependent on global connectivity to support their growth objectives, and having the right infrastructure in place to support this can make a significant difference to organisations’ bottom line,” he explained. “We work with companies such as Verne Global to provide not only the global network infrastructure and solutions that businesses are demanding, but also an excellent customer experience.”
