Dropbox is releasing a Windows 10 application for the Universal Windows Platform, expanding on its partnership with Microsoft which has seen the cloud storage service integrated into Office 365.

The new app will allow users to drag and drop files from Windows Explorer and to create custom notifications, such as alerts when a file or folder is shared.

There is also support for Windows Hello biometric security, meaning logins can be performed via fingerprint, facial or iris recognition. Other features include quick searches, easy access to recently opened files and the abilty to comment on documents from directly within the application.

The app will be available on the Windows Store in “the coming days” and a version for Windows 10 mobile will be released “soon”.

“Our partnership with Dropbox has helped more than 17 million people get more work done on the go,” said Steve Guggenheimer, corporate vice president of Developer Platform at Microsoft. “With Windows 10 running on over 200 million devices worldwide, we’re excited to continue to offer our fans easy and convenient access to photos, documents, and files anytime, anywhere.”

Microsoft Office 365 users can open and edit files directly within the Dropbox application and shared through the service. Earlier this year, Dropbox finally released an app for Windows Phone and Windows tablets, boasting much of the functionality of the Android and iOS versions.

Dropbox, which has traditionally targeted the consumer market, has turned its attention to the enterprise and hopes enterprise features like Office 365 integration will strengthen its bid to attract more businesses to the platform.

The company has also opened up an office in London to aid its continued expansion into the UK, where it is claimed that a quarter of all web users have a Dropbox account.
