2,000 Cabinet Expansion For Equinix’s Singapore Data Centre

Equinix is ramping up expansion of its Singaporean data centre, announcing the second phase expansion of the site that will see an extra 2,000 cabinets installed.

Showing how important the region is for Equinix, total spending on the data centre has now surpassed $350 million (£224m).

SG3

SG3 is Equinix’s largest data centre facility in Asia-Pacific. The site has a gross floor area of approximately 385,000 square feet, which can accommodate approximately 5,000 cabinets at full build; 1,000 of which were available in the first phase, increasing by a further 2,000 cabinets in the second phase.

The US data centre firm, which purchased UK’s Telecity in May, said that its Singapore data centre has a high interconnection rate, with more than 12,200 interconnections between businesses in this country alone.

Clement Goh, managing director for Equinix South Asia, said: “Singapore is en-route to becoming a Smart Nation, integrating all aspects of technology into a coherent and cohesive whole to improve the way people live, work and play.

“We hope to support Singapore’s vision by providing our customers with direct access to established business ecosystems.

Goh highlighted one particular Equinix customer, Fujitsu, who could benefit from the expansion.

“SG3 phase two was launched to help companies like Fujitsu ensure that they are in a solid position to support their customers’ needs,” said Goh.
