IBM Lifts Lid On £600m Storage Investment’s First Products

IBM, following the announcement of its storage bumper Spectrum Storage investment last week, has revealed two all-flash Micron-powered storage products.

The Spectrum Storage flash array FlashSystem V9000 and FlashSystem 900 will be Big Blue’s latest SDS systems.

Consolidate

The company said: “By deploying FlashSystem V9000, clients can consolidate their existing storage systems under one management domain, and implement leading-edge virtualisation and storage services throughout. Meanwhile, IBM FlashSystem 900 will continue providing extreme performance, enterprise reliability, and macro efficiency that can be deployed in as little as two hours, rather than the days required for conventional systems.”

Darren Thomas, VP of storage at Micron, said: “IBM is a powerful leader in storage, globally recognised for delivering solutions that transform businesses.

“For FlashSystem, IBM draws on Micron’s flash expertise and deep flash media knowledge to deliver a truly differentiated storage solution. This unique collaboration signifies the future of enterprise storage.”

IBM announced the £600m investment into its software-defined storage business last week.

The announcement was officially kicked off with the launch of Spectrum Storage, an application portfolio that will help businesses manage their storage and data assets.

The move compliments the firm’s hybrid cloud realignment strategy, showing the importance of software-defined data centres entering the spotlight.

Spectrum Storage

“IBM’s Spectrum Storage portfolio can centrally manage more than 300 different storage devices and yottabytes of data. This device interoperability is the broadest in the industry – incorporating both IBM and non-IBM hardware and tape systems,” said IBM.
