Ericsson Acquires Data Centre Automation Startup NodePrime

Ericsson has acquired NodePrime, a startup that helps businesses manage their data centre operations.

NodePrime, based in San Francisco, was already used by Ericsson before it came out of stealth in September 2015 when it raised $7 million in funding from a varity of investors.

Datacenter System 8000

Terms of the all-cash deal were not disclosed, but NodePrime’s employees are set to join Ericsson as the latter’s Hyperscale Datacenter System 8000 integrates with NodePrime’s software services.

Data-CentreSpecifically, NodePrime’s software platform enables discovery, analysis and automated configuration of existing and new data centre hardware platforms.

Ericsson said that this functionality allows data centres to become hyperscale and adopt distributed infrastructure.

James Malachowski, co-founder and CEO of NodePrime said: “Our vision from the start was to transform the infrastructure into a single entity where it’s entirely possible to grasp the management of hyperscale data center infrastructure through the collection of trillions of associated metrics inside one view.

“Now being part of Ericsson, we further strengthen and expand Ericsson’s position as an industry leader in next-generation software-defined datacenters. Together we are creating a massive power shift for enterprises to make decisions on their own terms and scale with precision at the speed at which businesses need to respond today.”

In October 2014, Ericsson made a similar acquisition of American infrastructure intelligence provider Sentilla Corp.

Ericsson said its reasons for the purchase were spurred on by he traditional data centre environment facing ongoing challenges when adapting to new workload demands, such as cloud-based applications and mobility.

“We at Ericsson continue to accelerate the creation of the software defined datacenter market, to benefit our customers,” said Anders Lindblad, Vice President, Head of Business Unit Cloud, today.

“NodePrime has unique talent and was a clear choice to bring inside Ericsson. We believe in innovation coming from the Silicon Valley area and will continue to increase our presence and distribution of such innovation.”
