Verizon’s cloud service went through a 40-hour downtime over the weekend, but Verizon said that the maintenance means any future updates will happen ‘seamlessly’ and without interruption to customers.
A company press release said: “This system maintenance was completed at 5 pm ET on January 11 and the new features take effect immediately for all Verizon Cloud customers.
“The seamless upgrade functionality allows Verizon to conduct major system upgrades without interrupting service or limiting infrastructure capacity.”
It was the weekend before this when Verizon initially notified customers of the planned 48-hour maintenance, causing some users to react critically of the firm for announcing such a long downtime window, and even for there being downtime in the first place.
Verizon said: “Many cloud vendors require customers to set up virtual machines in multiple zones or upgrade domains, which can increase the cost and complexity. Additionally, those
“Verizon eliminates these requirements, since virtually all maintenance and upgrades to Verizon Cloud will now happen in the background with no impact to customers.”
This incident follows a spout of competitor downtimes over the past few months, including unexpected shutdowns from some of the bigger players in cloud such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

It seems this upgrade has gone better than previous upgrades. They have had signficant data loss in the past, so I guess they are improving!
