Telefonica And Huawei Want To Sell OpenStack Cloud Together

Telefonica and Huawei are joining forces to give businesses a kick up the backside when it comes to migrating to the cloud.

The agreement will revolve around Telefonica’s public cloud-style OpenStack offering, which will now get total access to Huawei’s latest technology to help it along.

Huawei will deploy the public cloud service based on OpenStack in eight Telefonica data centres. Spain’s Telefonica said it will use Huawei’s “knowledge and experience” on its public cloud service in the Chinese market.

Brazil, Mexico, and Chile, all Telefonica strongholds, will be the first countries to get the service throughout 2016, with five mystery locations also popping up in due course.

“With this agreement Telefonica will be better positioned to serve the needs of thousands of enterprises that require an easily scalable platform in the cloud at a competitive cost and with full reliability and security,” said Juan Carlos Lopez-Vives, CEO Telefonica Business Solutions.

Huawei spokespeson Ryan Ding said that the deal with have a “big impact” on promoting the migration of businesses to the cloud.

“This global collaboration agreement represents a unique milestone in our long successful partnership with Telefonica,” he said.

“Joint innovation capabilities, customer focus, global scale will allow us to sustainably bring cutting-edge solutions and differentiated offers to our enterprise clients.”
