Oracle Teams Up With Intel To Push New Cloud Services

Oracle has announced a new partnership with Intel as it looks to get its customers moving away from outdated cloud systems, particularly those from rival IBM.

Project Apollo will combine experts from the two technology titans to show customers how to effectively set up hugely powerful cloud computing data centres using Oracle hardware powered by Intel chips, which should lead to major benefits in performance and cost-saving.

The launch was announced by Intel CEO Brian Krzanich alongside Oracle CEO Mark Hurd at the Oracle OpenWorld 2015 event in San Francisco today, marking the latest collaboration between the two companies.

Hurd said that Intel has already convinced thousands of customers to start running Oracle systems over IBM when running Oracle software.

“We’re committed to innovation in the data centre” Krzanich told attendees, stating that Intel’s goal is help optimise data centre performance, “this is the most innovative period for data centre technology I’ve ever seen.”

The move will also be accelerated by the launch of Exa Your Power, a separate new program that will help customers migrate Oracle Database from IBM Power systems to Oracle Engineered Systems using Intel technology.

Building on the initial success of Oracle’s Exadata service, launched last year, the program, which is joint funded by Oracle and Intel, should mean that the former’s SaaS apps will run faster and more effectively than before.

“Working together with Intel and our partners, we have helped thousands of enterprises quickly and easily move their Oracle database from their legacy systems to Oracle Engineered Systems,” said, Karen Sigman, vice president, Oracle Platform Business.

“This is an extension of our partnership focused on helping our customers achieve better performance, lower costs and better security.”
