Navisite’s Cloud Helps Authorities Manage Abnormal Loads On England’s Roads

Europe’s NaviSite has been chosen by engineering solutions provider Costain to provide hybrid cloud hosting services for a technology that automates the process for alerting police and road authorities of the route that an abnormal load carrying vehicle will be taking.

Ready to be implemented by Highways England, the Electronic Service Delivery for Abnormal Loads (ESDAL) platform helps notify highways authorities, structure owners and the police of vehicles and their loads that may exceed standard dimensions. ESDAL plots a driver’s route when transporting abnormal loads, and lets drivers know who they needs to tell about their route.

Sean McAvan, managing director of NaviSite, said: “By working together, we were able to develop new business opportunities with Costain and we look forward to working with them to continue delivering new solutions to their customers.”

Secure

navisiteNaviSite argued that it could provide not only a secure buy highly scalable hosting service for ESDAL. NaviSite was selected after a successful competitive tender process.

Costain’s Graham Stacey, highways technology director said: “The national road network is undergoing significant upgrades. NaviSite was tasked with helping us roll out ESDAL, in an extremely demanding timeline.

“The new cloud based platform will enable us to further develop the ESDAL solution and take advantage of new and emerging technologies.  As we expand our business we will continue to look to NaviSite to support the development of our services.”
