Are Businesses Overlooking Hybrid Cloud Benefits?

IT managers often face a single strategic decision when looking at their IT cloud infrastructure. On one hand, the public cloud is quick to deploy and flexible, whereas the private cloud offers superior information, control and security. Each model’s advantages and benefits have been widely debated. Today’s businesses do not have to choose, though: they can have both.

Analyst house Gartner underscored the benefits of a hybrid cloud environment earlier this year, highlighting its cost efficiency, scale and availability, the rapid deployment of functions and low barrier-to-entry – and that it allows for the maximum utilisation of assets.

Adoption rates

Adoption rates of hybrid clouds are growing, but some fundamental considerations remain important. For instance, it is worth remembering that organisations cannot successfully adopt hybrid cloud services without first implementing a private cloud. In conjunction with this, IT departments need to reinvent themselves as brokers of trusted services, with a set of fully-engineered solutions that enable choice for customers: not only the choice of which technology the hybrid cloud is standardized upon, but also choice around the public clouds with which an on-premise private cloud can interoperate. This can then deliver support for traditional and next-generation cloud apps, as well as financial transparency so that IT can prove its value to the business.

EMC Enterprise Hybrid Cloud

A hybrid cloud environment combines the best of both worlds. EMC, for example, has a long-standing commitment to helping organisations manage their migration to a hybrid cloud environment and recently expanded its range of cloud services with the addition of its Hybrid Cloud architecture.

EMC’s Hybrid Cloud architecture combines the company’s trusted on-premise products, and allows businesses to add one or several cloud service providers to the mix. And deployment is fast – very fast – as the architecture can be deployed in as little as 28 days.

This Hybrid Cloud solution also helps IT managers make the tough call on whether to use private or public cloud services, as a hybrid service is both cost-effective and easy to use. IT departments can quickly choose where they want to run their business applications, based on the specific requirements of every individual app. Additionally, a hybrid cloud service allows the IT department to offer on-demand access to resources, coupled with the freedom to use any device, anywhere.

When other companies like EMC also throw in transparent upfront pricing, standardised services, and automated provisioning, the choice to opt for a hybrid cloud solution becomes even easier.
