Fujitsu Boosts European Cloud R&D With UShareSoft Deal

Fujitsu has announced a major European acquisition which it hopes will help bolster its cloud knowledge and research across the continent.

The company is to buy French firm UShareSoft to help build, migrate and deploy secure and reliable cloud deployments to businesses around the world.

The deal will see Fujitsu position UShareSoft as its European global cloud services R&D centre, which it hopes will help speed up the enhancement and global expansion of its cloud business.

Strengthening

Founded in 2008, UShareSoft provides customers in Europe, Japan, Asia, and the US with application delivery software for automating the build, migration and governance of applications in multi-cloud environments.

The acquisition, specific terms of which have not yet been revealed, will also see Fujitsu incorporate UForge, UShareSoft’s primary software product, into the company’s existing K5 cloud service.

This newly-combined offering will sit as a major part of Fujitsu’s MetaArc digital business platform, as UShareSoft already sits within this.

“The acquisition of UShareSoft will work to further strengthen K5, and the new added value it enables, namely, the ease with which applications can be migrated to our cloud services and customer environments, will contribute to MetaArc,” said Chiseki Sagawa, senior vice president, Fujitsu.

“Moreover, we expect that cooperation between UShareSoft and Fujitsu group companies in Europe conducting business relating to software and the cloud, primarily Fujitsu Enabling Software Technology GmbH and Fujitsu RunMyProcess SAS, will raise our profile in the global cloud market.”

A recent TechWeekEurope survey found that just 15 percent of readers are interested in procuring public cloud services, according to the results of our latest poll. 30 percent say they are interested in hybrid cloud, which combines the benefits of both private and public services.
