The Cloud Industry Forum (CIF), a UK organisation that promotes cloud computing transparency, has said service providers need to do more to assist companies that are moving to the cloud.
The call for action follows research that shows senior IT staff are finding the migration to cloud computing not as straightforward as they first thought it would be.
The 2015 research, which polled 250 senior IT and business decision-makers from both the public and private sectors, found just 10 percent said that their migration could not have been improved, with around a third wishing the provider had offered better initial support.
The complexity of migration to cloud was difficult for 38 percent, while 30 percent encountered difficulties relating to data sovereignty.
The CIF points to its own ‘Code of Practice’, which is recognised by the European Commission, as a starting point for firms shopping around for a service provider.
Hilton also claimed that there just isn’t enough knowledge about cloud services in the UK to ensure smooth rollouts and migrations that will support business objectives. The poll showed that 35 percent of those quizzed felt that they lacked the skills necessary to make a transition that would benefit their business.

Interesting. We have a service called journey 2 cloud which creates a safe path for companies migrating to the cloud. Importantly it also maps out what not to migrate. Many vendors have been interested In Offering the service to their prospects, but as yet no deals as been done as a partner. Perhaps it is a case of cloud supplier believing their own hype on ease of use, without understanding all of the complexities facing a CIO?
