Cisco and EMC’s spin-out Pivotal Software have partnered to sell each other’s cloud products as Cisco looks to boost its cloud prowess.
The deal will will see the two companies sell Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Pivotal’s Cloud Foundry-based cloud platform, and Metapod, Cisco’s OpenStack data centre offering.
Officially called a ‘solutions partner and global reseller agreement’, the deal is described as a way customers can “rapidly build, deploy and operate Cloud Native applications on a wide choice of hosted, public and private clouds”.
“Digital transformation is driving the need for development teams to move faster than ever before,” said Peder Ulander, VP, Cloud and Managed Services Organisation at Cisco.
“With the integration of Cisco Metapod and Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Cisco is pulling together the leading managed private cloud solution with the leading Cloud Native developer experience to help customers quickly and easily modernize their IT along their digital transformation journey.”
Cisco saw strong growth in other areas, including routing, collaboration, security, service provider video and its cloud-based businesses, according to CEO Chuck Robbins.
Cisco’s core business is still in routers and switches, but as more and more of the enterprise turns to cloud, Cisco is working hard to keep up with the shift to software over hardware.
