Box And Salesforce Release Native File Sharing Service

To give customers a little helping hand on their quest to the cloud, Salesforce and Box are co-releasing a new service that lets Box users search, browse, access, and share Box files from any device without leaving the Salesforce platform.

Both partners hope that the solution will help businesses become ever more collaborative and connected with the service, dubbed ‘Salesforce File Connect for Box’.

“Frictionless”

“With Salesforce Files Connect for Box, files are available in context, exactly where they are needed — attached to an opportunity, a marketing campaign, a case or any object — creating a frictionless experience for users,” said Nasi Jazayeri, Salesforce Community Cloud vice president.

Box CEO Aaron Levie said that his company is excited to expand innovation with Salesforce, as the enterprise storage provider looks to strengthen its ties with the business world.

A second announcement comes in the form of a Box SDK for Salesforce, allowing developers the change to use Box content management in any app built on Salesforce’s App Cloud.

The SDK, available for free on GitHub, also lets developers embed Box’s content management functionality into Salesforce processes and customisations.

Box progress

Salesforce Files Connect for Box is currently in pilot with select customers and is expected to be generally available in Summer 2016. It will be available via the Lightning Experience, Salesforce1 and the Aloha User Experience. Pricing will be announced at the time of general availability.

Box’s Salesforce partnership is just one of many marriages that Box is in to help it penetrate the enterprise. In October, Box COO Dan Levin said that he believes partnerships are evidence of Box’s superiority.

He was referring to Aaron Levie’s appearance at Boxworks 2015 on-stage with Apple, Microsoft, and IBM.

“I think what you saw was quite extraordinary,” Levin told TechWeekEurope in San Francisco in September.

“You saw the CEO of Apple, a senior vice president from Microsoft and a very senior executive from IBM on the same stage in the same morning, all saying that the same company – Box – is the one to beat in enterprise content management in the cloud and they are supporting our efforts.”
