Chip Boss Gelsinger Leaving Intel For EMC

Intel reportedly will announce on 14 Sept that Pat Gelsinger, senior vice president and general manager of its Digital Enterprise Group, is leaving the company.

The New York Times is reporting that Gelsinger’s departure will put in motion a number of other executive moves, all coming a week before Intel’s annual Intel Developer Forum opens in San Francisco on 22 Sept, with some 5,000 people expected to attend.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Gelsinger is moving to storage giant EMC, where he will be in charge of that company’s storage products operations, as well as some software businesses.

The Wall Street Journal said EMC CEO Joe Tucci had gotten to know Gelsinger in recent years as EMC switched over to Intel processors and away from chips supplied by IBM.

An Intel spokesman reportedly had no comment on the New York Times report, which cited anonymous sources.

According to the Times, Sean Maloney, an executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer at Intel, will assume control over all of Intel’s chip operations, including those for PCs, servers and graphics.

Dadi Perlmutter, executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Mobility Group, will run the engineering operations for Intel’s chip businesses, the Times reported.
