Amazon’s Next Irish Data Centre Will Replace A Jacob’s Biscuit Factory

Amazon has started the planning process of a new data centre in Ireland, according to the Irish Independent.

The site will be located in a former Jacob’s biscuit factory in Tallaght, near Dublin.

Amazon has asked the County Council of South Dublin for permission to start demolishing some of the existing buildings on the site, which was bought last year.

The Jacob’s factory was closed down in 2008.

Expansion

Tallaght is located to the south west of Dublin

Last October, it was revealed that Amazon will build a data centre near Dublin airport that could take the firm’s spending on data centres in the country to more than £700 million.

The data centre would be in addition to plans revealed in September for another, smaller build in Dublin that will set Amazon back £145 million.

The planned data centre would be the biggest and one of most expensive data centres Jeff Bezos’ company has built in Ireland to date, highlighting the business, economic, and legal benefits of operating with customer data in Ireland.

Amazon uses its data centres to process massive volumes of sales from Amazon.com, as well as orchestrating its AWS cloud service from the facilities.
